Matchplayers Back in the Groove

After its Christmas break the Friday Night Matchplay at Collyer’s returned on Friday. A steady but unspectacular turn out brought in the new TT year.

In the lower group players took advantage of the flexibility to play normal matches, handicapped matches or engage in practice sessions to plump more for the latter option. Youngster Leon Lukose did manage to get two wins in however. Good to see newcomers Kate and Susie Rowbottom join in the fray.

In the upper group there were more matches to comment on. Oskar Crook played six and won four of them, still finding Tat On Man and Chris Good year a bit too worldly wise to overcome. The Tatmeister produced his usual quality to win all four matches he played plus as ever he gave of himself generously to give Harry Llewellyn and Jude Lane some coaching input.

Chris Goodier was impressive winning five out of his but still confounded by Tat, 2-1 in sets. Aalrin Shibu was his usual hardworking self in taking some blows but giving out a few himself as Llewellyn found out to his cost. Brother Alain was one of his conquerers beating him in a final set decider.
