History of Horsham Table Tennis Club

Horsham Table Tennis Club was founded in the 1938/1939 season, as an offshoot of the Horsham Lawn Tennis Club.

Over the years it has played in various venues: the former Black Horse Hotel (corner of West street); the Albion Hall (now demolished); the old Y.M.C.A; The Barn, in the Causeway; and in 1972 the old army hut at Broadbridge Heath (now demolished), Then the Forest Boys school hall; and in 1986 Broadbridge Heath Sports Centre.

The club has always played in local league(s) and in the early 1970's the Crawley League was renamed the Crawley and Horsham League, at the initiative of the Horsham Table Tennis Club.

At the back end of 2003 Horsham Table Tennis Club started to investigate bigger and more cost effective premises and in October of 2003 Horsham Table Tennis Club started to use Greenway school along side the Broadbridge Heath Sports centre. In March of 2004 Horsham Table Tennis Club moved all of its activities over to the new playing premises at Greenway school. Through 2004 the club in-conjunction with Greenway school, updated the facilities to include new table tennis friendly decor, high power ETTA approved lights, new windows and roof, new 25mm tables, barriers and robots.

Then on September 19th 2004 Horsham Table Tennis Club held its open day to promote the club and the newly upgraded venue. The open day was a spectacular show of table tennis with Matthew Syed, Terry Young and local hero Richie Vener in a three way round robin. There were big screen TVs showing table tennis from around the world, table tennis coaching from the local coaches, a bouncy castle for the young ones and refreshments.

Since moving to the new Greenway Venue Horsham Table Tennis Club has been able to expand its coaching programme and increase the amount of table time available to members this has helped attract lots of new members young and old to table tennis in Horsham. Horsham Table Tennis Club is now the largest Table Tennis club in Horsham and the surrounding area with one of the best available facilities.
